Portland rams have heavily spiralled horns, which in older animals may develop a second turn.

They are much prized by craftspeople such as traditional stickmakers. The horn can be carved, heated and bent and painted. Portland horn may have a natural black line running through all or part of it.

Horn can also be used to make buttons and other fastenings as well as vessels.
